Find The Problem. Fix It. Move On.

Operational systems and compliance infrastructure. South Island NZ.

Many business owners are quietly losing hours a week to admin they can't shake, systems that don't talk to each other, and problems that keep coming back. Others are running regulated businesses where meeting compliance obligations is consuming more partner time than it should. In both cases the problem is the same: the business has requirements it cannot meet without the owner filling the gap personally. AI tools only work on top of a functional process. You can't automate broken. That's when I come in.

How I
Work

Simplicity, practical delivery, and absolutely no jargon.

01

Understand

I start by understanding exactly what's causing the problem in your business, not pitching you software or a generic programme.

02

Simplify

Stripping away complex administrative processes to find the most direct path to better cashflow.

03

Deliver

Straightforward solutions built around how your team works, with the training and transition management to make sure they're actually adopted, not worked around.

04

Value

Fixed pricing based entirely on the outcome delivered. I never charge by the hour.

Who I
Help

Business owners who've outgrown the way they currently run things and need someone to find and fix what's holding them back.

01

You're stuck doing admin instead of running the business

02

Your team has grown but your systems and processes haven't kept up

03

You know something's broken but can't see where to start

04

You can't take a day off without things falling apart

05

Your best people are drowning in the wrong work

06

Your systems don't talk to each other, so someone's copying numbers between them every single day

07

You run a regulated business and compliance evidence is a manual effort that falls on the same person every quarter

08

Your FMA, FAP, or FMC Act obligations are being met in practice, but you couldn't demonstrate it systematically if asked

Most owners recognise three or more of these. Every one of them is costing time, margin, or both.

How to Engage

Three
Stages

Every engagement follows the same path. You only commit to the next stage once the current one has delivered its value.

Stage 01

Diagnose

We sit down and map the real problem in your words, not mine. We define what it is costing you and agree on what a fix looks like before any further commitment is made.

Fixed fee

From $2,500 + GST

14-day guarantee: if you don't have a clear picture of what's broken by day 14, you pay nothing. Compliance diagnostics from $5,500 + GST.

Stage 02

Blueprint

We go deep. Working alongside your team, we map where the friction is, design the fix, and show you exactly what it will cost and what you will get back.

Investment

Scoped after Diagnose

Stage 03

Implement

The fix, delivered. We implement the changes, manage the transition so your team actually adopts the new way of working, and hand over complete documentation. The business is running the new way before we close the engagement, and you're not dependent on us to keep it running.

The Person Behind The Work

I spent 16 years at ANZ Bank, finishing as Business Architecture Lead on a nine-figure core banking transformation. That work included hands-on regulatory compliance programmes for RBNZ and APRA obligations. I hold the Institute of Directors Chartered Member credential and have assessed more than 50 New Zealand businesses commercially and operationally.

In 2025 I moved to independent consulting, bringing the same approach to businesses across the South Island. The work is always the same: understand what is actually happening, find where it breaks down, design something better, get it running.

Common
questions.

How do I know if my NZ business has outgrown its systems?

The clearest signal: your team spends significant time copying information between systems that should share it automatically. Other signs: accurate reporting takes days, not minutes; one person holds a critical process in their head; you've spent on software but the problem persists. Most South Island owners recognise three or more.

What is root cause analysis for a small business?

A structured investigation that identifies why a process keeps failing, not the symptom but the cause. For an SME this means mapping exactly where manual handling introduces errors, where disconnected systems force rework, and where one person's absence would collapse the process. The output is a targeted fix, not a list of recommendations.

How can South Island SMEs reduce operational bottlenecks?

Map your workflows before buying any new software. Bottlenecks most commonly sit at the intersection of two departments or two software platforms. A structured audit quantifies the hours lost, identifies the cheapest fix point, and produces a phased roadmap. Most businesses recover five or more productive hours per owner per week.

How does Grandview Synergy fix operational problems in South Island businesses?

By working directly with the business owner to find the specific process leaking time and margin, mapping it end to end, then designing and implementing the fix. All engagements are fixed fee, scoped before work starts. No juniors, no overhead. Rick Tombling works directly with you.

How much does a business systems review cost in New Zealand?

The Diagnose stage (a structured assessment of your current systems and the real cost of what's broken) is $2,500 + GST, fixed fee. Later stages are scoped and priced after Diagnose, so you know exactly what you're committing to before you commit. No hourly billing. No open-ended retainers.

What about AI tools for my business?

AI tools only work on top of a functional process. Before any AI assistant can help your team, the underlying workflows need to be coherent, the data needs to be clean, and the handoffs need to be reliable. Broken processes just break faster with AI on top. Grandview Synergy fixes the process first, which is the prerequisite for getting real value from any AI tooling you introduce later.
